Sun Moon

Margaret Christianson and Janine Delgos

13th Sept - 26th Sept     Open Thurs - Sun
Opening: 14th Sept 2pm

Many suns and moons ago, I met Janine at college, marking the beginning of an exciting artistic journey that has continued to this day. The SUN symbolises the light of discovery, while the MOON reflects our achievements and what is yet to come.

Creating art has been a constant companion of mine, always guiding me to new places for inspiration, which I then interpret into colourful artworks and memories. Travel is also an essential part of my life. In recent times, Queensland has become my winter escape from Melbourne, a dedicated time to paint in the warmth of the SUN. The light is distinctly different from that of Melbourne, with colours bouncing vividly off the canvas.

One of the greatest joys of these escapes has been reconnecting with Janine after so many years and creating art together again. She is the MOON, and I am the SUN, and we now proudly present our collaborative exhibition for you all to enjoy.

Janine Delgos

A recurring and fundamental aspect of my artistic practice that remains steadfast is the desire to capture the essence of my immediate surroundings and the landscape in which I reside. I aim for my work to convey a sense of place and environment without being overly literal.

My artistic endeavors began in my youth and evolved into a formal education in the arts, resulting in the completion of a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) Visual Art from Melbourne in 1984. Now residing in Montville, following a distinguished 35-year career in education on the Sunshine Coast and Victoria, my current atelier and gallery in the hinterland serve as a wellspring of creativity, drawing inspiration from the panoramic coastal views and lush rainforest surroundings.

While a significant amount of my time is devoted to creating and teaching in my Studio, I also delve into watercolour, acrylics and ceramics with a strong conviction that experimenting with diverse mediums enhances my artistic pursuits. Additionally, my sketchbook plays a crucial role in my creative routine, granting me the freedom to explore ideas without limitations.
